HEART TO HEART WITH
ORANG UTANS

What does it feel like to save Borneo’s most endangered species? The orang utan, or ‘person of the forest’ is a much-loved international icon of the rainforest. Try out a day in the life of the unsung heroes who sacrifice time and effort to bring these gentle giants of Borneo’s forests back from the brink of extinction. Get down and dirty with the orang utan keepers at Matang Wildlife Centre and share a day of joy with these intelligent, soulful animals which were once found in abundance throughout Sarawak.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

Generosity, acts of kindness and bounteousness are part of the Sarawakian psyche. Be part of Sarawak through this incentive to help provide a better future for Sarawakians in need. Help build clinics, school buildings and other essential facilities in poor communities. Take the opportunity to be a part of a longhouse community and share their lives whilst you help bring basic amenities to them.

KAYAKING IN A RAINFOREST OR OCEAN PARADISE

Paddle along rivers, through river mouths and out into the South China Sea. Get up close to ancient rock cliffs; glide along waters so clear that you can count the number of pebbles at the bottom. You will get a chance to take a peek at wild proboscis monkeys perched on their treetop dwellings. Need more adrenaline? Then shoot some rapids with trained guides or push through breakwater to kayak with dolphins in the open ocean. For the truly adventurous, take a paddle out to estuaries and see if you can spot crocodiles in their native habitat. Kayaking adventures can be as mild or as tough as you want them to be, and are completely safe. Professional kayakers lead every expedition. Kayaking adventures are perfect for groups of 8 to 40 people. Get an expedition tailor-made for your group after your conference or event.

RHYTHMS OF THE RAINFOREST

From humble beginnings over 10 years ago, the Rainforest World Music Festival has earned international acclaim and recognition for blending the best of world music with a gig in the jungles of Borneo. Rock to the rhythms of the world in a backdrop of Old World Rainforest at the foothills of Mount Santubong. For two days and three nights, world-class musicians from four continents play to their hearts’ content to an international audience at the Sarawak Culturally Village (SCV). Sway to the rhythm in the midst of a floodlit rainforest setting during the concerts at night. Fancy a private concert? Arrangements can be made for the visiting musicians to perform for your group, or conduct a special workshop just for your guests. Groups can stay in any of three international beach resorts in the area.

THE SARAWAK REGATTA – RACING SARAWAK STYLE

History tells of warring tribes who fought one another to their death over territory, pride and historical enmity. To divert such lusty energy away from violence, the colonial authorities created a river race of war boats or longboats, and made it an event of peace and to celebrate the rowing prowess of the different tribes. Thus was born the Sarawak Regatta, forever an important part of Sarawak culture for its role in ending tribal hostilities and bringing harmony to Sarawak. Today, on Regatta Day the Sarawak River brims with longboats, traditional war-boats, water-taxis, dragon boats, modern kayaks; rowboats of all colours, make and design, all for one purpose – to race each other in the name of unity and fun.

The Regatta is held in September every year.

COOK UP A STORM

Why do the usual in an unusual place? Bring a piece of Sarawak back with you. Learn to cook Sarawak style in a group and impress the folks back home. Tailor-made group cooking tours can be arranged for delegate groups, starting with shopping for ingredients at local wet markets for  true-blue Sarawakian recipes like pansuh manok (bamboo chicken), the celebrated Sarawak laksa or other undeniably Sarawak-style dishes from the village. A local chef will be at hand to give each team a master class in cooking each dish, be it an Iban, Bidayuh, Orang Ulu or local fusion recipe. Each team will be guided through the paces of creating their culinary masterpiece. Each participant will be presented with a booklet of local recipes, a surprise souvenir and a one-of-a-kind certificate.

TEE OFF IN THE CLOUDS

Tee off on a mountain plateau 1,000m above sea level on the outskirts of Kuching.  A 72-par, 6,247-metre course awaits the delegate golfer. The cool mountain air and pleasant daytime temperatures are delightful for golfing. Manicure meets rugged in this golf course set on the highlands and surrounded by Bornean jungle, challenging the avid golfer to best their game. Competitions and special events can be specially organised to suit delegates’ needs. Beyond golf, take a stroll along the jungle trails and enjoy the sounds and sights of the oldest rainforest in the world. Then, soak away the stress and tension of city life, pamper yourself with a full jungle spa whilst revelling in the majesty of the real jungle outside your window. True to their promise of nature and all things natural, only quality organic food is served at the Borneo Highlands Resort

WE BUILD. WE COMPETE. WE BOND.

“If you want love, give it away” is an exercise in team building that takes on a new meaning when you know that your efforts will help bring a smile to the face of a child in need. Finding the necessary clues to build a bicycle gives the team the opportunity to learn about the medicinal and other uses of herbs and plants while exploring a nature park and completing tasks such as tree planting, cleaning up and honing photography skills. An atmosphere of friendly competition between the groups in bike-building adds a sense of urgency.  Enjoy a well-earned picnic lunch before you deliver the bikes to the selected children’s charity. The activity requires a fair amount of physical exertion.  For a full-day session this can be combined with a team endurance go-kart challenge at Velocity.  Teams of three compete to complete as many laps as possible within the one-hour challenge. After the racing and prize presentations, team members gather for a barbecue dinner to relax and review the day’s programme.

AT SCHOOL & AT PLAY WITH MOTHER NATURE

It’s back to school for delegates with a day out learning about Mother Nature. Teams of delegate get on a school bus complete with a teacher to Mother Nature’s ground, whether beach or forest. Class starts when they reach their destination, with lessons about how Mother Nature works in the context of the location. There’s recess too and ’students’ get to play games and have fun. Win prizes and competition for being the best students in class.

COME FLY WITH ME,
ANGRY BIRD STYLE

Hooked on Angry Birds? Relive this popular game in this life-size version and take that chance to practise your aim. Inspired by the Angry Bird game, the group is divided into teams where they will be required to build a catapult from scratch using the items provided. No tools or hardware, just simple ingenuity and lots of teamwork! The sense of urgency to be the first to hit the target creates an atmosphere of friendly competition between the teams. Now here’s the catch, each team is given three chances to hit the target, failing which; an elected team member is required to use his or herself as a human catapult. An alley is created from a plastic sheet with water and soap, and the human catapult has to slide his or her body to reach the set target. The first team to hit the target wins! For a full day session, this game can be combined with other beach activities such as football or volleyball to encourage camaraderie and teamwork between colleagues.

MAMMA MIA, HERE WE GO AGAIN…

Ever wanted to have a Mediterranean themed party along the Sarawak River? The Mamma Mia Theme Party will transport you to the azures of the Skopelos Islands in Greece where the ship is transformed into a Villa setting with a colourful spread of canapés and cocktails. You’ll even get to rub shoulders with Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, or Sarawak’s legendary headhunter! As the ship sets sail into the sunset, savour a feast of Mediterranean food and a fiery array of BBQ meats. Tied in as a teambuilding activity, prepare to be entertained by your own team members with music and dance performances of ‘Thank You for the Music’ and ‘Mamma Mia’ for example. You can also call in the professionals of a live band performance and prepare to rock the boat with your ‘Dancing Queen’ moves.

AMAZING RACE : KUIH GONE WILD!

Set in the rustic surroundings of the Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV) – Sarawak’s living museum, delegates are divided into teams where each will be given a clue that will lead them to a set of tasks at hand. Just as the name suggests, teams will be required to visit 4-5 traditional houses within the Cultural Village to recreate the traditional biscuits and cakes, also known as kuih. The SCV staff will first show the teams how to make the kuih, and after that, will take over and proceed to try their hand at making these traditional delicacies to the staff’s approval. Once they’ve finished visiting the 4-5 traditional houses, the teams will assemble in the general event hall to decorate their tray of kuih. Winners will be judged on their creativity, the taste and presentation of their kuih and the time it took them to complete the race. The race can be tailor-made to accommodate a range of different tasks within SCV to suit every event or group preference. A fun and unique activity, it guarantees everyone an amazing time!
